John deGruyter
John deGruyter started his career with a laptop in one hand and an M-16 in the other. After his service as a computer specialist in the United States Marine Corps, he continued to develop his passion for taking things apart and studying how they work. At a pivotal point in his career, a great experience taking SANS SEC660: Advanced Penetration Testing, Exploit Writing, and Ethical Hacking propelled him to walk away from what was comfortable, and ultimately land his dream job. Now with over two decades in the technology field, John's hunger for learning has developed into a passion for teaching. Today, he gets to use his experience and dedication to help others do what they love. John authored and taught his Windows Kernel Primer training course at Derbycon and Black Hat. He has been a guest lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and has authored and taught a computer network defense course at The George Washington University. In the past, John led a small team that wrote and ran Capture the Flag contests for CarolinaCon, a security conference in Raleigh, NC.
