3 Quick Facts about Alexandria

1. Alexandria was incorporated as a city in 1749. Alexandria's Old Town district was established in 1946 as only the third historic district designated in the United States.
2. A young George Washington helped to design the streets in the current “Old Town Alexandria” area. Much of Washington’s childhood was spent in the Alexandria vicinity. George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon, is located just south of Alexandria city limits.
3. Stroll Old Town Alexandria’s King Street mile to find more than 200 independent restaurants and boutiques plus intimate historic museums and new happenings at the waterfront.
