James Lyne

James has spent the past 20 years of his life chasing cybercriminals around the Internet and, as a self-professed “massive geek”, has been involved in most cyber security disciplines. From offensive security and breaking apart IoT devices; hacking tanks and planes; red teaming high security organisations; digging deep into forensics; or helping keep nation states safe through defensive - James has spanned most of it. As a certified SANS instructor, he has taught countless students new skills they needed to protect their organisations and, ultimately, our wider society. He has also been in the middle of countless major data breaches helping to “stop the bleeding”. More recently, James has spent lots of time ‘explaining’ and bringing new talent into the industry. James has been featured on a multitude of TV programmes, delivered multiple TED talks and has delivered many major conference keynotes. James is as passionate about cyber security as the day he started as a young enthusiast in reverse engineering but, of course, today the stakes are much higher as all of this supports the future resilience and development of our world!

More About James

James has given multiple TED talks, including at the main TED event. He's also appeared on a long list of national TV programs to educate the public including CNN, NBC, BBC News, Bill Maher and John Oliver. As a spokesperson for the industry, he is passionate about talent development, regularly participating in initiatives to identify and develop new talent for the industry.
