Jason Barrett

Jason Barrett serves as the Intelligence Community's (IC) Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Executive at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Appointed in October 2023, he is the first to hold this position, overseeing the synchronization and coordination of OSINT efforts across the IC. His responsibilities include developing resource and investment plans, establishing policies and standards, and implementing frameworks for acquiring and utilizing publicly and commercially available information.

Barrett's career spans over two decades within the IC, with roles such as Deputy Director of ODNI's Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center (2021-2023), Chief of the FBI's Asia Cyber Intelligence Unit (2019-2021), Executive Assistant to the Director of National Intelligence (2018-2019), and President's Daily Briefer to the National Security Advisor and Homeland Security Advisor (2015-2017). He has also served as the National Counterterrorism Center’s representative in New York City and Chicago. His contributions have been recognized with the FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Public Service and two DNI Distinguished Service Awards.

In his current role, Barrett emphasizes the importance of OSINT in the modern intelligence landscape, advocating for its integration as a core intelligence discipline. He has been instrumental in developing the IC's OSINT strategy, aiming to position open-source information as the "INT of first resort" and enhancing the community's ability to harness publicly available data effectively.
