Jay James is a cybersecurity professional with over a decade of progressive experience across data loss prevention, incident response, cybersecurity operations at a leadership capacity. Currently serving as the Senior Cybersecurity Operations Lead at Auburn University, Jay combines strategic planning, leadership, and technical expertise to manage enterprise cybersecurity initiatives and align risk and compliance with operational security. In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, Jay was honored as the "Mid-Career Professional of the Year" for the Americas in the ISC2 Global Achievement Awards 2023.

A dedicated advocate for mentorship and professional development, Jay taught and mentored aspiring cybersecurity professionals through roles at Purdue University Global as Adjunct Faculty, a learning facilitator for MITxPro’s Cybersecurity Certificate program, and through various initiatives at Auburn University. A recognized Higher-Ed technology thought leader, Jay, has been featured in publications such asTech & LearningMagazine. He has also delivered impactful talks at events like the EDUCAUSE National Conference, where he shared strategies for mentoring and leadership.

Jay holds a Master of Science in IT/Cybersecurity from the Florida Institute of Technology, a Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Management from Auburn University, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from Auburn University, and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University. His expertise is further demonstrated by an array of certifications, including CISSP, PMP, GIAC Security Leadership (GSLC), GIAC Security Operations Manager (GSOM), and Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE). 

Jay’s ability to bridge the gap between technology, business, and education, combined with his human-centered approach to cybersecurity, has made him a leader and mentor in the field. Whether leading enterprise security initiatives at the University or inspiring the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, Jay’s impact is felt across his spheres of influence.
